PRES. CANDIDATE WILSON RETURNS TO DAVENPORT TO PERFORM IN GOSPEL MUSIC CONCERT
CHICAGO - Presidential candidate Willie Wilson, who also is an Emmy Award-winning gospel music singer, will return to Iowa on Saturday, June 13, to perform in the Robert Couch Annual Men's Musical at Third Missionary Baptist Church, located at 222 West 14th Street in Davenport. Wilson will be accompanied by his orchestra, Singsation!, which is featured every Sunday morning on his gospel music television show of the same name.
The 6 p.m. musical will include a number of male choruses throughout the community, with Wilson headlining as special guest. More than 250 people are expected to attend the free concert.
Wilson kicked off his bid for the Democratic nomination for president with various stops in Iowa last week. Since then, he has traveled to New Hampshire by-way-of train, gathering supporters in five states.
Wilson is known for his rags-to-riches story that includes growing up poor in Louisiana, to now sitting at the helm of a $60 million medical supplies empire. His recent mayoral campaign in Chicago created a firestorm with the incumbent attempting to keep him off of the ballot.
After much legal wrangling Wilson won the right to participate as a candidate in the election, winning nearly 11 percent of the vote and causing a run-off election for a sitting mayor in the first time in Chicago's history.
