WGN NEWS: Willie Wilson exploring run for White House

CHICAGO — Wealthy Chicago businessman Willie Wilson, who tried to unseat Rahm Emanuel in the recent mayoral campaign, is setting his sights on another office — a much higher one.

He’s exploring a run for president and plans to make that announcement at a press conference tomorrow.

Wilson has formed an exploratory committee that is examining the viability of a 2016 presidential run.

He says he already likes what he’s hearing and is 90 percent sure he’s going for it.

“I’m independent. I don’t owe anybody any favors in government,” Wilson said.

Wilson is a very successful businessman who worked his way up from nothing to own a handful of McDonald’s restaurants. He now runs an international medical supply company.

And while he lost the race for mayor, he says he feels he made a difference and wonders what a difference he could make in the highest office in the land..

“This is what America’s about and this is what freedom’s about,” he said. “If we get involved and we do something, we can make a difference.”

Wilson will be holding a press conference at his Chicago home tomorrow afternoon. If all goes as he expects it will, he’s planning another press conference next month to announce he’s running for president.
